Black Martyr’s Weekend 1969

 

Taken during the first Black Martyr’s Weekend, which was created by CBS following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. to honor him and other martyrs who died and committed their lives to racial justice. The weekend featured many events, including a keynote speech by Dr. Nathan Hare, who was the chairman of the Black Student Party at San Francisco State College, and a panel discussion led by members of the Des Moines chapter of the Black Panther Party titled “The Defense of Black People.” Taken April 3rd, 1969 Special thanks to Digital Grinnell for this photo.

1969: CBS Vs. Faculty Benefit Game

Photos taken on February 26th, 1969, during the CBS vs. Faculty basketball benefit game. The benefit was held to raise money for the Martin Luther King scholarship created by CBS.
